Default Connecting a cell phone via Wifi with a 1mile range

I am attempting to put together a mobile broadcasting set up using an IP cam and my laptop. The laptop will be connected via 3g to the internet, then I want to put together a router with maybe 1 repeater that is strong enough to connect the phone to the laptop via Wifi.

I know nothing about db's or mW's or any of the other technical stuff and that is why I am here. Money is not an issue at the moment because I'll be getting backers for the project. What is important is a good reliable Wifi connection on a 5acre plot. We want to stream activity at Euro Woodstock.

There will be 500,000+ people in this 5acre field and we can position ourself on a hill to get a good clear reach.

The million dollar question is...what hardware do I need? I am keen on the Samsung SIII but I know that is not really relevant. More relevant is the size of the router and antenna and booster and repeater etc etc.

Any words of wisdom?

Thank you in advance. I appreciate the fact that this website and all of you are here. Have a good day.

Doug

Your are not going to get a WiFi enabled phone to connect to a wireless access point one mile away. You might get 500 feet.

From history, it is well known that a street level laptop or smartphone can use the AP up to 500 feet to 1,500 feet.

It will very likely work up to 500 feet.
It might work past 500 feet, or it might not.
It might work up to 1,500 feet, or it might not.
It will very unlikely work past 1,500 feet.

This is all assuming you have a clear line of sight (no trees or buildings in the way), and outdoors. If indoors, you will be very lucky to get 500 feet.

Example - Where customer is outside, like in a park, and you can see the AP with nothing in the way.

Less than 100 feet, you will have have good signal.
From 100 feet to 500 feet, you will very likely have good signal.
From 500 feet to 1,000 feet, you will likely have good signal.
From 1,000 feet to 1,500 feet, you might have good signal.
Over 1,500 feet and it will *likely not work*.

If there are trees in the way, you may get one half of the above distances.
If there is a building in the way, you may get one tenth of the above distances.
If you are inside, you may get one tenth of the above distances.
If you have a smartphone, you may get one half of the above distances.
