I am looking for advice on connecting to the Internet via a WISP. The WISP’s antenna is less than 500 feet from my house. I can occasionally get a weak signal from the WISP using the out of the box wireless adapter installed on my laptop. I need a signal that is more consistent and stronger and the WISP is telling me that I don’t need a stand alone directional antenna and that I can get by with an Ethernet 80211G Bridge. The Bridge would then connect with my wireless router in my home network.
To me this is a signal power issue and I don’t understand how the Bridge solves the problem. All I get from the WISP is trust me. Does installing a Bridge make sense to you? It would seem to me that a directional antenna would give me more flexibility but the cost would be higher. If I go the antenna route, do you have any suggestion on connecting the antenna to my wireless router? I presume that I’ll need some sort of Ethernet converter in between the antenna and the wireless router. I haven’t yet purchased a wireless router.
Thanks.
