Can someone explain, if i have a laptop capable of connecting to my router at 54mbps, and my broadband connection is 512kbps, what speed of internet do i get?
A hell of a lot slower than your Laptop is capable of...
Your internet connection is about half of a Megabit connection, approx. high end DSL or slow Broadband. Your laptop connection is capable of seriously higher speeds than what you get in your internet connection but it is ok. Unless you are downloading huge movie files or running majorly network hoggy applications you will still be pretty fast. If you were connected to another computer at home you'd notice the difference in transfer speeds but the two are irrelevant for internet usage since we are no where near that kind of connection speed for residential usage yet.
