Default cordless phones kill my wireless signal

Say Guys, I recently acquired ATT Yahoo DSL with a 2-wire wireless Gateway. Every so often I lose my signal then it comes back eventually. I found out that when I lose the signal my wife is on the phone which is cordless. Then I will sometimes lose the signal but she's not on the phone. I checked with my neighbors and they have cordless phones too. I found out (with their help) that when they use their cordless phones I lose my wireless signal. Our houses are close together. Sometimes I go the whole evening and can't get online if others are on their phones. Is there anything that can be done to prevent this like buying a filter or something? The DSL works great otherwise. Thanks, Collieguy

Sometimes the channels can be set on cordless phones, and the channel can almost always be set on a wireless router.

Try to set the phone channel as far away from the router channel as possible.

These phones don't have the ability to change freqs. Even if I could change mine I couldn't ask my neighbors to change theirs. I'll probably have to get a router. I wish that yahoo would have said that cordless phone might cause problems. They lead me to believe that I could talk on the phone and be online at the same time. You can if you're hardwired or you have standard phones. I wasted my money on that wireless Gateway.

Perhaps Yahoo's tech support could tell you how to change the wireless channel on their device. I'm sure this happens quite a bit, and they'd be fools to lose a customer because of unwillingness to give out that information.

I did send Yahoo an email the day before I signed up for this forum. I received an email from them today saying that they received my question and will get back to me. I'd hate to get a router as I've read that they can be a pain to setup. I could get newer cordless phones at 5.8 gigs but then I still have the neighbor's phones to deal with.

Default Got It!

I got in touch with Yahoo support. They were very nice and understood my problem with my (and my neighbors) cordless phones interfering with my DSL wireless signal. They changed my channel of my modem from #1 (2.4 gigs) to channel #8 (2.44 gigs). All is well!! I checked both of my cordless phones and checked my neighbors and no more interference. Yea!! Yahoo said channel 8 is a more stable freq. Thanks guys for your replys. Collieman
