I have a d-link modem and a d-link wireless router with a sony vaio, everything is brand spankin new...I know the modem works and connection is fine (ala now) with my desktop pc, but the laptop is having issues. It recognizes the connection once installed and is 'excellent' strength wise, but if I open a browser, nothing comes up...everything seems to be configured properly isp wise. The ethernet cable is plugged from the router to the modem.
Can you get access to the router itself from the laptop? Make sure you have DHCP enabled on the router and set your laptop IP address to automatic. Also make sure any firewall on the laptop is properly configured for your network.
Hi there
I agree with Jeremy about the firewall etc. Try and disable any third party firewalls for a start. Have you been able to log into the wireless router with an ethernet cable? If you can I would make sure you have changed the SSID away from the default one. Then disable security encryption and try to connect with wireless. If you can then enable basic WEP 64 encryption and try that. If that works then you could use wireless security WPA PSK or WPA2 PSK if you want a more secure connection. You must have latest updates to run WPA2 on some PC's.
