disable wireless capability

Hi

May I know whether it's possible to disable the wireless capability in a wireless gateway? And after disabling it, connect it to another wireless access point and use the access point's wireless capability instead.

Is the process complicated? Cuz I'm quite new to networking, especially wireless.
