Hi, I'm a newbie on the board and not much tech experience with wi-fi related topics, hoping to get some help here.
I have a cabin in the woods that i use seasonally but my neighbor is a full time resident and has offered to let me use his wi-fi. His house is about 150 feet away.
Right now I have a Powerlink Wireless 11N Panel antenna that works marginally, i do get signal but very weak and dropout often. I also have an asus wl-330g 4 in 1 adapter along with a couple of spare wireless routers and adapters that i can use. My neighbor has offered to allow me to do whatever is needed to receive optimal signal but i would like to intrude on him as little as possible. Is there a good way to receive his signal and amplify it on my own property w/o bothering him? If the only alternative is to mount something in his house what would be the least intrusive and maintenance free on his part(he is a senior citizen)?
Thank all.
I just did some looking around for a 24dbi para and noticed that thye have what looks like a coax cable with screw type coaxial end, how would that interface with my laptop and/or adapter?
Thanks
PS what would be better a 24dbi 2.8 or a 5.8 22dbi?
I'll assume it was a typo error and you meant 2.8 (GHz).
You need a 2.4 GHz antenna, not a 5.8 GHz antenna.
By the time you spend money on an antenna, coax with a Type N connector and adapters, you can get a Ubiquiti Airgrid for around $70 and it will use a CAT5 cable.
