External Hard Drive To My Wireless Router

Hello, I am looking for any help on getting my external hard drive to connect to my laptop threw my wireless router.
Its a real pain in the butt to have to tote the drive around the house.
Also what kind of security issues will I run into? Or will the current blocks block the drive as well thanks for any help
