Question help starting wisp

I am new to wifi networking and have but the basic know-how(theory only).
I would like to know what should i take into consideration(besides los, antennas, power loss, etc). For example i am thinking of buying an aphelion 3300 ag bridge or 600 ag, a sat. dish and an access point for starters. The link range is about a mile between two blocks of flats.
Should you know a better equipment setup, or a couple of helpful hints, I would really appreciate it.Thanks a lot.
