Default Help for wireless network.

Hi All,

I am new to this forum.I am working as a system Administrator.

We are running a xerox copy centre where we have a lot of customers who come up with their files saved in laptops. So for making copies/printouts of such files we have to transfer it into any of our Desktop PCs.For this purpase i have purchased one "Wireles-G lan PCI card" which i fixed into one of my PCs and installed the utility came along with it.Also i purchased one Linksys WAP54G wireless router for making the desired setup.

Now can anyone please suggest me a secured method to configure these devices for the desired setup.Shall i use this WAP54G as an access point or repeater ? The only thing the management concerned is that the customer who is connecting to this wireless setup should not enter into our LAN.He/She can simply transfer the file to the PC where the wireless PCI card is attached.

Is this possible without running a DHCP server from the PC as i think there is no DHCP facility with WAP54G ?

Your helps will be highy appreciated.

Thanks !!!

There will be a DHCP server on your AP, probably just not turned on.

To make things secure, have a shared drive on the desktop pc which everyone has write permission to, you share this drive for customers to copy on their files. If you dnt want them to be able to access the rest of the network, best to isolate the wireless part of the network to its own sub domain. Different IP range etc (can do this all via the AP)

However you will have a bunch of security issues by having an open network, (assuming any customer can walk in and connect to it) even if it is only sharing one network drive. I can think of at least half a dozen things someone can do, to cause havoc, if they find a open wireless network thats easily connected to.
