Default How to boost my wireless router for Ps3 with a netgear wrg614 wireless g

Hello everyone,

I am in need of some help here. I have my main pc on the main floor of the house in a bedroom i use as my computer room. I have comcast high speed internet connected to my cable modem to my pc. My wife and daughters pc's/laptop are connected to a netgear wrg614 wireless g router that is connected directly to the cable modem.

I just had to buy a new ps3 due to my old one dying. Well, i did not get into the whole connection thing with my first ps3 but while i was installing the new ps3 yesterday i noticed that when setting up the wireless connection the ps3 ran a speed test and came back saying something between 60-65 % connection speed.

Now i know about the distance being part of it but I want to know how to boost the signal to the ps3????

I just printed out the Windsurfer template and will try it when i get home but before that i want to see what options i have to increase speed with what i have.

Since i am not home i cannot verify which version of the netgear wrg614 router i have, so i cannot see if the dd-wrt will be compatible until i get home. but would that do the trick for me if i install the dd-wrt on my netgear if compatible?

If not, i just checked my ps3 model and it is only wireless G not N so i do not see the point of getting a new router with wireless N on it if the ps3 doesnt support it correct?

Is there anything else i can do ?

I also read to enter the Router IP and access the Gui and change the boost cause the manufacturer usually sets it half way..

any help would be great thanks guys.

Or perhaps you need to wait more than 2 hours before whining as this is a forum and not a paid service.

Take the PS3 out of the tv cabinet, set it on top, and see if your speed makes a difference.
2nd, play a game, and see if only 60% is really harming anything. I doubt you'll ever see 100%, so there has to be some margin of error.
3rd, check into changing channels, could be a neighbors wifi is on the same channel and causing some interference.
But, honestly, I suspect distance and line of sight will be your best improvements.

I did not mean to sound like a smart *** when i commented "i guess i came to the wrong place"... I meant to say did i place my question or dilema into the wrong part of the forum.

I was fustrated because i was reading sooo much on wireless networking i could not think anymore.

I do not know if this will help but i have a D-link dcm-202 cable modem which has the comcast internet coming in directly to my main pc on the main floor of the house. The cable modem is then connected to a netgear wgt624 version 3.

Last night when i got home i looked up the netgear model number on the dd-wrt website and it seems my netgear wgt624 ver3 is not able to have dd-wrt installed on it, it will brick from what i read.

I also, tried that windsurfer antenna booster from www.freeantennas.com i did not notice a difference with it....

I am still learning alot of the wirless settings but i am wondering what settings are the settings that make things faster or slower???

I tried messing with the following but i do not think i did them right, i kind of did it all at once instead of one at a time to see any difference. but here is what i tried messing with. will any of these make a difference?

----phcp
----dmz
----port forwarding
----static IP

One thing i did not understand or did not find someone easy enough to read to understand how Bridging works... anyone?
