Default How to get a faster wireless connection?

We have a cable modem and my husband got a Linksys 2.4ghz router to use for his office. The connection is very slow and apparently it will not work if/when he sends files with large attachments. Is this a problem with wireless systems in general or do we just not have the right equipment? If there are any place you could point me to that have tips to get the right equipment, I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Johnnamjh

The weakest point in your connection to outside (internet) is a speed of your modem (connection speed you have from your internet provider).
Other problem could be interference or poor position of your wireless router. What obstacles do you have between wireless router and PC.
Wall with metal could be great obstacle for your wireless signal.

I agree with Igor, the problem could be with interference from obstacles or the fact that your computer is too far from the router.

If you have cordless phones or other wireless electronics in your home, your computer might not be able to "hear" your router over the noise from the other wireless devices. To quiet the noise, avoid wireless electronics that use the 2.4GHz frequency. Instead, look for cordless phones that use the 5.8GHz or 900MHz frequencies.

Other nearby wireless routers can also cause problems if they're on the same channel as your router. Wireless routers can broadcast on several different channels, similar to the way radio stations use different channels. In the United States and Canada, these channels are 1, 6, and 11. Just like you'll sometimes hear interference on one radio station while another is perfectly clear, sometimes one wireless channel is clearer than others. Try changing your wireless router's channel through your router's configuration page to see if your signal strength improves. You don't need to change your computer's configuration, because it'll automatically detect the new channel.
