Default Laptop not seeing wireless network

I've been given a laptop at work that can't see the wireless network in the next room. One of the guys here sitting further away from it can pick it up on his mobile. I haven't dealt with wireless before so I'm ahh lost. Just tell me what you need to know and I'll tell you what I can.

The laptop is a Toshiba tecra a3x. The wireless card that came up in the device manager said 'intel (r) pro/wireless 2915abg network connection'. It's logging onto its wired network just fine. Apparently it has worked fine on wireless before.

Sounds very basic, but make sure the wireless adapter is turned on. There is likely a switch on the front of the laptop that turns the wireless adapter on and off. Had the same problem with a Toshiba Tectra as well.

Thanks!! It worked. It also didn't help that this laptop was set up to use some Intel Wireless program to link to the network, not just the standard login thru the windows network connections screen.

Thanks for your help.

Another question regarding this very same laptop...

The guys at work want to use this to connect to the wireless projector we have set up. For some reason, the wireless projector won't show in the Intel wireless program that is managing all the wireless networks.

What I would like to do is disable this wireless program and use the windows wireless manager. I did what it said to do in the help section - go to the advanced settings and choose 'use windows to manage wifi' - and every time (even after a fresh install of the intel software), the windows wireless network screen says 'windows cannot configure this wireless connection. if you have enabled another program to manage this wireless connection, use that software'.

But I thought that I just enabled the windows one!?!?!

Thoughts, suggestions?

Once again, its probably a very simple problem but I dunno alot about wireless...

Thanks!

If you're using Windows XP, did you check to make sure the Wireless Zero Configuration service is started? It's possible that the third party software turned it off.

This is very basic things. Have you check your wireless switch on your laptop? It might be turn off.
