Laptop Wireless Card Help

Ok So here is my story. When i lived at my apartment i had a wireless internet connection and it worked fine. I moved back into my house and the wireless didnt work so i was stuck with a wired connection on my laptop.

Laptop got infected with virus, then was like ill just re-format which worked fine. House finally got a new router and i can go wireless again but i cannot for the life of me get my wireless card to work again. The button on the front of my Compaq Presario V6048CL laptop used to always be blue now it hasnt changed from red/orange color. I am 80% sure i have a Broadcom 802.11 b/g WLAN card, and i have tried lots of different driver updates...

When i install them they dont tell me like the product isnt available, but the device never appears in my Device manager, and my computer has yet to be able to connect wirelessly.

It seems to me like the driver updates dont seem to update my computer, I kind of just install them and there is a new program there but nothing happens. nothing changes, and i have come to a wall with know what to do next.

Hmm, could be a number of things...

I'd check that your wireless is activated in the bios (when you first boot the machine), and next that the radio for the laptop is switched on. It's normally a function key & number combination. This is what probably turns the light on from red/blue. Once that's on, you should see it in thedevice manager list.

Thereafter, it sounds like you've got all the drivers, etc that you need. So you should be good to go.

Finally, it is possible that your wireless card has failed - at which point you could take it in to a dealer or buy a PCMCIA or USB wirelss adapter instead (whichever's cheaper).

i went to my bios page, but i only saw one thing, that seemed remotely like turning my network card on or off and it was disabled. I then enabled it but nothign happened so im sure that wasnt it.

I dont have a set of keys to turn my card on/off b/c i have a switch, and its turned on already and its been red for a long time now.

Nobody can help

should i just buy a new card?
