Linksys WRT150N Router to access friend's WiFi network
Hi,
I am not a complete novice, but I am at a loss. I can usually find a tutorial, follow it, and get the results I want. However, there are so many options and variables, and none seem to stand out as the best solution to my problem.
My next door neighbor has graciously granted me access to his wireless network. He uses an Apple Airport Extreme router. I've connected my TiVo DVR to the network with my TiVo Wireless-N adapter, which I've located right next to his apartment.
I can access the network with my MacBook Pro, which is on the other side of the apartment, but the reception is spotty at best. I want to improve my reception and I have a Linksys WRT150N Router and practically no budget for any other products. I would buy something like a WIFI RANGE EXTENDER (NetGear sells one for about $70) if I was convinced I could not use my Linksys router to do the same thing.
I found a tutorial at DD-WRT.com for installing dd-wrt firmware and I have successfully installed it on my Linksys router.
Can anybody tell me the best option for my situation? Can I use this router as a range extender?
since u havs instaaled dd-wrt on ur linksys, what u can do is configure the linksys as a repeater and hv it connected to ur neigbhours router.
This way it will pick d signal frm ur neigbhours and relay it to u but u will need to place the linksys at a location whr it could atleast get a fairly good signal frm ur neigbhours router and also u will need to know the mac address of ur neigbhours router as u wil hv to input in onto ur linksys under wds link page.
