Linksys WRT54G as Repeater

Just installed a Linksys WRT310N wireless gigabit router. I have a few dead spots in the house and would like to set-up the old WRT54G Wireless Router as a Repeater. I have seen a Cisco thread with some discussion that it is possible (when using WRT & WAP 54G models), so just curious if the WRT54G would be compatible with my WRT301N as a repeater...

Of course I am open to other ideas to enhance/extend range.
