Default Long Range 802.11g Link

What is the cheapest and most reliable solution to establish a wireless link over a 10 mile distance? My brother just moved to a new house about ten miles away and I would like to setup a link with him.

There is a direct line of sight from my rooftop to his.

You can buy a high gain grid or yagi antenna for your end and his end. You would have to mount both antennas on the roof, obviously.

You might also have to fine tune them, making sure they are pointed at each other just right (anything over 15 dBi has a pretty narrow beam). Being off by inches....maybe even centimeters...could affect your signal.

A correction to your link

Given that the Fresnel Zone is 22 metres at 16 Km, assuming a flat Earth, he had better be prepared to build some strong masts or towers. At that distance "Earth bulge" may have to be taken into account as well.
