Question Looking into setting up wifi for a 1km/2 area?

Hi

I am looking to setup a wifi solution for an area approximately 1km/2. From the centre of the property, the furtherest point is 500m's.

I can situate the main antenna in the centre and at the highest point.

I need to know what hardware I'd need.

Additional info : I can only get a maximum 2Meg line, but I can get upto 3 and all 3 only can only be installed in one location.

Ideally :
I'd like to use as little hardware as possible.
Connect all 3 lines into the same wifi router.
Although users don't need their own login ( although it might be ideal ), all I need user management wise is to be able to limit the max each user gets, or be able to set it so bandwidth is equally split. ( this is important for busy periods )

All help and recommendations will be appreciated.

Assuming you mean a 1 diameter, or half a km from the center antenna site.

Step 1 - Get $60,000.
Step 2 - Locate about 40 vertical asset points at 15 feet height.
Step 3 - Find a consultant.

thanks, but I've already come up with a better idea than that before I came on here.

Why have a forum where people ask these questions when you're just gonna refer them to consultants?

Because paying for a consultant is a hell of a lot less expensive than wasting money on equipment for a poorly designed project.

Consider what I have posted many times in other forums,

Quote:
From history, it is well known that a street level laptop or smartphone can use the AP up to 500 feet to 1,500 feet.

It will very likely work up to 500 feet.
It might work past 500 feet, or it might not.
It might work up to 1,500 feet, or it might not.
It will very unlikely work past 1,500 feet.

This is all assuming you have a clear line of sight (no trees or buildings in the way), and outdoors. If indoors, you will be very lucky to get 500 feet.

Example - Where customer is outside, like in a park, and you can see the AP with nothing in the way.

Less than 100 feet, you will have have good signal.
From 100 feet to 500 feet, you will very likely have good signal.
From 500 feet to 1,000 feet, you will likely have good signal.
From 1,000 feet to 1,500 feet, you might have good signal.
Over 1,500 feet and it will *likely not work*.

If there are trees in the way, you may get one half of the above distances.
If there is a building in the way, you may get one tenth of the above distances.
If you are inside, you may get one tenth of the above distances.
If you have a smartphone, you may get one half of the above distances.

i totally agree with WHT...

it sound simple but its not. in my case i alredly spent/wast around 500$ on wifi antennas, cables, pole, AP and different routers to just cover around 300m to 500m but not so successful.

i just joined this forum to find-out why its not working and how to setup to make it working but in another thread.

because you need professional help.

what WHT said, a different way:

It's a two way radio

there is no supermega router that gives a ten mile range and connects to ten thousand clients. that would be a 4G cellphone system.

the other end of the system has a dinky little transceiver and weeny antennas. RF performance is determined by both ends of the link

routers are designed to connect twenty users, tops, in a small office.

what you want exceeds the design parameters

you can't get there from here.

Ubiquiti has many solutions you can use, I have used them for Point to Point to set ups over a long distance before.

However the Ubiquiti forum has many users that have had experience in doing this :-)

This advice is all accurate... You can learn form it or repeat the mistakes others have made.

Depending on the type of project you are looking at, we install these networks and then sell subscription to them...

Let me know if that is of interest.
