midrange wifi video
I'm looking into a wifi video setup... what I'd like to do is be able to set up my MacBook w/ a Hawking USB adapter + Super Cantenna at spot 'A', with the cantenna aimed at spot 'B' - 1/2 to 3/4 mile away (more would be better). At the other end, I'd like to have wireless PTZ webcam, say frm Linksys or Dlink.
The questions I have are:
1. Would the laptop + cantenna setup be able to reach/receive that far to the webcam, or would I need another high gain antenna at spot 'B'?
2. If I need a second high-gain antenna at spot 'B', would another Super Cantenna plugged into the webcam (assuming I can replace one of the external antenna with the plug from the Super Cantenna) suffice, or would I need a wireless router (like a Linksys WRT54G) w/ the cantenna plugged into *it*?

Yes the system will work but i suggest you purchase a commercial AP unit and Client unit to have the proper connection, have a look at www.zigwire.net. and use one of there outdoor units like Product Name:AMU-2405G-SMA
Product Class:Long Range Wireless LAN system
Features: AMU-2405G-SMA 802.11g/b 500mW , AP/Client/Repeater/Bridge; LED Wan/Lan/Power; Lighting arrestors protection; Stainless Steel adjustable mounting bracket; No internal antenna panel; Plastic outdoor weatherproof case; -30c~65c ,120/240~48vdc power ,up to 30km with Yagi, 16-dbi gain[not included]
or just email them and they will help you
Ah... I probably should have mentioned... this is a personal/hobby type of setup, i.e. I'm footing the bill out of my own pocket for this little adventure, not someone else. Pretty much any commercial 'solution' I've looked at cost several times what I'm looking to spend with the above setup. I know that complicates things a bit, sorry.
When you say "Yes the system will work" do you mean the laptop + antenna to the webcam will work without needing a router and/or high-gain antenna at the other end?
