Default N Router, G AP

Here's a question for everyone:
Our IT guys are in an office in another city and aren't very interested in solving our problems, so I'm tasked with finding a solution. We recently upgraded our wireless from G to N and it has worked fairly well. However, our office is rather long and skinny and the router is at one end of the office. In between the router and the rest of the office is a slew of walls, stairwells, electrical rooms, etc., so we don't get a very strong connection in our main public area. We have an old WAP (802.11g) that I would like to plug into a hard line in the front of the office and map the settings to the router in the server room in the back (with a different channel).

My question is will the G WAP work on the N Network seamlessly, or do I have to live with two separate SSIDs in the office?

You can use one SSID no problem the clients will associate to the strongest signal

Just leave the n ap in nbg mode 20Mhz and make sure to seperate the channels use 1 and 11
