Default Netstumbler can find networks, but Windows cannot

Recently, my Windows Wireless Network Connection has failed to show any wireless networks when I know they are available. If I open Network Stumbler I can see my own wireless router as well as about 20 others. Once I close NS and open the Windows Wireless Network Connection I am told that no wireless networks are in range.

On a side note, my Wireless Zero Configuration is set to automatic and is started. Further, my laptop did not come with any 2nd party wireless software/manager that I am aware of. I have always used Windows Wireless Network Connection to view and connect to my router. I can connect with other computers, so the router is ok. I would appreciate if anyone has suggestions on any processes I could turn on/off or any thoughts that would get this up and running again.

Thanks!

Is this a problem that happened immediately after installing Netstumbler, or just one that popped up out of nowhere?

It came out of nowhere. I have it working now, but am a little frustrated that I cannot exactly pinpoint what I did to correct it. I attempted to start any process that was remotely related to WiFi within the Services list and then refresh the network window. If nothing appeared, I would stop the service and make sure it was at the previous setting before I started. I would then go on to another service and start it, refresh the network list and so on. This didn't work, so I opened Netstumbler to take a look at the list to be sure that there was a strong signal for my network. Obviously, it wouldn't make sense to be testing this if there wasn't a strong signal. I closed Netstumbler without making any changes and reopened the Microsoft Network Connection window. I clicked refresh and my network appeared. Very strange. I tried to do this methodically so I could give a clear answer to what I did, but unfortunately I am not sure what corrected it. Just wanted to give a follow-up for those who are having the same issue.

Thanks!

The windows wireless manager isn't the best at finding networks, I've often had problems with a network just not showing up in windows, but showing up in netstumbler.

If anyone knows of a better manager for windows, please post.

Especially if you find one that works under Vista, since Netstumbler does not.

Yeah, but software developers have to go where the money is.
