Hi, after two years of paying ridiculous ATT bills just to have DSL Internet I gave it up. My neighbor offered to let me piggyback his Wireless signal, and I gladly accepted.
My problem is that I don't know what I need. He is German, so it is hard to understand some of what he described. I'm pretty sure I need either an internal card, or an external USB antenna.
His house is within 100 feet, but my computer is on the wall facing away from his house. My apartment has windows on the wall facing more towards his house, but I'd rather not block my two front windows. The adjacent wall holds my air conditioning unit.
Any help will be appreciated. I'm a single mom so I'm on a budget as well.
Well, on one point I'm in luck! My boss has an extra PCI card at home that he is going to bring in for me. He thinks I may not need an antenna, but if I do I will get one.
I would suggest the Wi-Fire. It's a USB wireless network adapter that will give you a longer range than the PCI card that your boss has without you needing to buy a big antenna. It also has better performance than the EnGenius EPI-3601S.
You can buy it at hfield.com so it's not too expensive considering how well it works. Good luck.
