Hey guys, good afternoon, hope everyone is doing well. I am needing some help and the first thing I am trying to figure out is what am I doing wrong. I bought a biquad antenna from eBay and I hooked it up to a desktop wifi card and I get the same signal strength I get with the little antenna that came with the wifi card, of course I must be doing something wrong.

Here I took some pictures of my setup, by the way, my biquad antenna is hooked up to a dish satellite, here it is:

Here is a picture of the dish I'm using with the biquad:

Here is the biquad antenna:

This is the coaxial that connects to N-connector in the biquad:

This is an extension to the coaxial that measures 10ft and goes in my house:

This is the same cable but connected to the wifi card in my test computer:

This here is the output of the connection, the router is inside my house 3 rooms away from where the computer is, I get same 3 bars even with no antenna connected:

So what am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for your answers, tips, advice, etc.

Do you have any idea just HOW MUCH signal you're loosing in the coax?

Get yourself a real CPE and mount it on the roof with CAT5 cable.

No idea mate, this is my first attempt in life doing this, just moved from having 12mb DSL to a rural area where not even DSL is available : / so ya know how painful it is to not have Internet and satellite sucks and it's pricy.

So the CAT cable should do the job?

Now, the big question is, what do I connect from n-connector to my computer?

Is there such thing as n-connector to cat5?

Also, I'm so newbee that I don't have a clue what CPE means :P

I appreciate your answer

no way CAT5 cable will work with that antenna. You need LMR XXX, I go with LMR 400.

The biquad has to be at the focal point of that dish or nothing will happen

WHT is saying buy a router and stick it on the roof. Run CAT5 cable from the router to your network card. You don't get the RF loss through the cable if you do this

When i said CAT5 cable, that was if you were to use a roof-top mounted CPE - client radio - that uses CAT5 network cable. If you still want to your your bi-quad, you'll need much lower loss LMR-400 or -600 cable.

CPE radios such as the Ubiquiti line, NanoBridge M | Ubiquiti Networks, Inc. for $89 or the less effective and less expensive $49 Loco NanoStation Loco | Ubiquiti Networks, Inc.

I am an amateur radio operator and I make my own antennas and I have access to a machine shop and I have been doing electronics since 1964...

and I don't do wifi antennas. way less aggravation to just buy commercial antennas

You can get a SWR meter and dummy load for about $1,200.
