Question PEAP behavior using Dell WLAN Card Utility

Hello,

I'm preparing to use my Dell Latitude D620 and its 1390 WLAN Mini-Card with the WLAN Card Utility (SW ver 4.10.47.3 / Driver ver 4.10.40.0) and wish to use PEAP/MS-CHAPv2. What I need to know is if the Dell supplicant sends the user identity info via the SSL tunnel or in clear text during the 2nd phase of authentication. I've read where the Cisco Aironet client uses the SSL tunnel but the Microsoft client is clear text. For security reasons we need to have the user identity data in the SSL tunnel. If anybody can answer this question, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks
BR

Briaread,

I did some checking, and the 1390 should send the authentication info through the SSL tunnel. The person I checked with did some extensive testing on various connection methods using the Dell cards, which included PEAP/MS-CHAPv2 and said that it did not send the info in the clear. He also recommended making sure you have the latest drivers for the card (available on the Dell support website, I can give you a direct link if you need it). If you need more info on the card let me know.
