Hey, i live in a dorm where they just put in WiFI. Basicly the wifi connection point is really only meant to provide a connection in the lobby area, but my room is close enough to where i can get a connection maybe a 14 of the time near my window with just a standard dell wireless card. What i'm wondering is if i got a linksys wireless router w/ the little antennae things, if it would pick up a lot more signal than my standard wireless card? And also, is it even possible to relay a standard WiFi signal through your personal router to your computer? Any help would be great.
I don't think it will work by using wireless router, unless you install wireless Access Point, but you still need to configure it to talk to lobby's wireless router, and you need to know the existing setup details.
They do make repeaters, but more often people will take a bridge with a directional antenna pointed at the remote router, and then ethernet that into their laptops, or routers if they have to run a whole network.
