Default Setting up a wireless network with a USB modem

I have been wracking my brain for over a week trying all the different configurations I could find on the net, or conjure up in my head.

I have a sprint phone I am tethering into a Dell XPS8100 tower for internet access. I just purchased a tablet and would like to be able to surf with that as well. I have tries an Adhoc network, but my HP tablet does not support those. I would like to send the signal out to a netgear wireless router I have. From what I have found it should be able to be done, but I cannot figure out how.

The best I can come up with so far is to setup my modem for sharing with my LAN connection. I then have an ethernet cable going out to the wireless router. I get lost from here. I believe I need to disable the DHCP on the wirelss router and set the ip address of it to the LAN card?

Any help would be greatly appreciated and save my marriage as I have ignored my family for a week trying to figure this out.

On your wireless router:
Disable DHCP on the LAN side.
Set LAN side subnet to match the ICS 192.0168.0.x.
Set WAN side to something way different like 192.168.1.1.
Don't plug anything into the WAN port.

Thanks for the quick reply.

As I am totally new to this, please allow me to ask some follow up questions.

I have since swapped the netgear router for a cisco valet. When I go into the router settings I see a section for internet setup. If I am understanding correctly I am to change that from a DHCP to a static IP of 192.168.1.1 (also the device homepage). I am then to enter subnet mask, default gateway and DNS values, all of which I am unsure of.

I then change the router IP to match my LAN address of 192.168.0.1.

I have also gone under my dial up devices and shared my USB modem to my LAN, not wireless network. Correct?

Once again please excuse my ignorance and accept my thanks, as this is my first attempt at networking.
