Default Super tiny wireless USB dongle

Hi there,

I want to try using one of these . . .

Super Tiny Mini Wireless WiFi 802.11b/g/n USB Adaptor Dongle - 150Mbps Speed

Can't post URL yet (new member) so apart from saying they're availalbe from crazysales<dot>com<dot>au that's the best I can do.

. . . and registering it on my Android phone. I don't need to really do much communicating with it - none in fact above 'seeing' it when it's on and in range.

Anyone tell me a) what else (battery, etc....) I'd need to power it, and b) how I'd then detect it was live?

Apologies if this seems a bit 'flakey' but this is my first attempt at anything WiFi related.

it appears you want the USB device to act as an access point. Being a USB device, it would need to be connected to a computer or laptop, just like any other USB device.

Hi WHT,

Thanks for the speedy response.

As you can see, I've revealed my absence of knowledge on this subject immediately!

What I want is a really low-cost, wireless device that enables me to 'detect' it - not really to communicate with it in any meaningful manner - just to be able to
see it'. My initial thoughts were that all WiFi devices have a unique MAC address? If I can get a low=-cost device like this dongle powered up and transmitting that MAC address, I can then set up a device to check whether it's alive or not.

Does that make sense?

Eric

My crystal balls says magnetic storms are polarizing the free electrons in your USB connector.
