Default Two Wireless Routers in Home

I would like to set up a second wireless router in my home to get better coverage throughout. I already have the hardware...here's what I have.

Linksys WRT54G Set to 192.168.1.1 and hardwired to my DSL modem
Desktop/Server is hardwired to one of the ports on this.
SSID NetworkG, Channel 11

Dlink DI-524 This is the new one I want to add. I had hoped to hardwire
this unit off of the WRTG4G and locate it on the opposite
side of the house. SSID NetworkX, Channel 2

If I set the DI-524 with the default address of 192.168.0.1, with the DHCP server enabled, I am able to connect wirelessly to the to the internet without problem, however I am unable to connect to the server.
I've tried setting the address to 192.168.1.100 and tried enableing and disabling the DHCP without success.

Anyone have an idea how to set this up so I can get to the server?

Thanks
Wozzy

Are you sure the problem isn't in the server's settings? Have you tried wiring your laptop into the WRT54G also, just to see if the server is even being published across the network?

Thanks for the Reply Geocorona.

I'm pretty sure the file sharing on the Server is working properly.
If I connect my laptop to the Linksys (either wired or wirelessly), I am able to use the Server's shared drives without problem. The Linksys is the one that the Server PC is hard wired to port 1 on. Also the Dlink is hardwired to port 2 on the linksys.

The Linksys has a LAN address of 192.168.1.1 and allocates addresses of 192.148.1.##

However I want to connect wirelessly through the Dlink with the laptop, and also a network enabled home theater system to get to the server files. The Dlink is setup with LAN address 192.168.0.1. it allocates addresses of 192.168.0.##

I've tried changing the address of the Dlink to something like 192.168.1.10, I've also tried turning off the Dlink's DHCP server. Neither seem to work. Actually when I turn off the Dlink's DHCP server I am unable to connect at all through it.

Also on the topic of the problem being with the server, I've tried disabling both the linksys and windows XP firewalls without success.

I must've tried 1000 different combinations of settings without avail.

Thanks,
Wozzy

I believe it would be okay to use the same SSID for both wifi routers, although it might be confusing in the connection dialog.

That might be what's causing the server to be cut off from the NetworkX computers (or not). If not, keep chopping away at those firewalls until you find an opening.

If you already have a wireless router...you'd want to add either a range extender, or another access point...but not another router..unless it has a feature in the web admin to flip it to access point mode only (like many new units have).

That would make the job easier.

You certainly don't want two routers trying to run DHCP on the same network.
