Using 24dbi grid and can't get a IP address

I have a 24dbi grid antena and a Alfa to get my friends wirless internet he is 1/2 mile down the road.I get a good signal from him but his system won't send a IP address to let me connect top the internet it sends a 169 IP address is this problem a seeting on his end that hiw Wireless internet provider has set? What can i do?

If your computer has a 169.x.x.x IP address, that means:

* Your network connection is set for dynamically assigned IP adress.
* For soem reason you are not connecting to the upstream end to get an IP address.
* Your computer can't get an IP address, so defaults to 169.x.x.x.

This is likely a simple wired networking problem. Take you computer to his house and try to get a wired connection first.

you are going to slow your friends network down big time. wireless networks expect an ACKnowledge signal to come back when a packet is received. the system is set up for a small radius. 1/2 mile is too far. the system will be asking for retransmissions of ACK signals that were sent a little late.

I would create a separate network using 2 Ubiquiti bullets or other devices designed for long range use and stay off his in house network
