Wi-Fi Help

Hey, I'm new to the forum, so I hope I'm posting this in the right section.
Ok, I have windows xp, I have a wireless router, I have a nintendo usb wi-fi connector, this is my problem, I can't get my ds to connect to either of them, I have no security on my router and I lowered the transmission rate to 2 like nintendo.com suggested, it still doesn't connect to the router, any suggestions on how to get it to connect with the usb wi-fi connector??
