Wireless Mesh Network Open Research topics

Hi all,
What are the open research issues in Wireless Mesh Network field? I want to pursue a Masters degree by research on it.
Also equally helpful would be the info on ongoing researches in the same field

I'll rephrase your question as "what are problems with a mesh network?"

The most significant problem is the manufactures and vendors showing off pretty color pictures of nodes connecting to other nodes across town. In practice a node will see only one or perhaps three other nodes, all within a mile or so.

If 1) properly understood, 2) properly deployed, 3) realistic metrics of expectations are specified, and 4) there are compelling reasons for a meshed network - then it has its purpose. Problem is that 90% of people that want mesh don't have those compelling reasons.
