Wireless over 1km (LOS)

Well, just to warn you all, I am a newbie at all this, but everyone starts here.

Anyway, I am wanting to be able to connect my mates computer to my network, he is about 1km away, and we have a clear LOS between us. So what I am wondering is what hardware do I need?

I have so far come up with
1) Wireless access point, with external aerial capability.
2) directional aerial
3) any old wireless card for his end? (with external aerial capabilities)

Am I on the right track?

you can try to use CPE series from "www.zcomax.com".

CPE-252H, outdoor AP at your site, connect it to your network ethernet switch.

CPE-250H, outdoor station adapter, at your friend's site. Connect it to your friend's computer ethernet port.
