Default wrt300n and laptop issues

hi,
for quite some time now, i can not connect my laptop to my router stated in the topic. I had no problems with my wrt54g, but i decided to upgrade, and i did not research all the bugs this router had. i can not switch back to my old router for various circumstances,

my issue is that my laptop is not N compatible, but even though the router allows mixed and BG and signals i can not connect PROPERLY. What I mean by properly is that i pick up the signal strongly (green bars) but i cannot access the internet, no browsing at all. When i observe the properties, it looks as is half of what my laptop sends, is not recieved (the packets). It is a open channel, no encryption, i made sure the channels are right. My laptop can connect to my neighbors from houses down. so i do not understand.

If you wire, ethernet cable, your laptop to the WRT300N can you connect to the Internet?
If no try cloning your laptop MAC address on the router. It is on one of your router setup pages.

If yes have you set your router to the wireless mode that your laptop's wifi card has, b or g. Try connecting to your router with the laptop via wifi and check to see if it gets an IP address. Does it start 192.168.xx.xx or 169.xx.xx.xx?
If it starts 192.168.xx.xx and you cannot connect to the Internet can you run ipconfig/all from the cmd prompt, assuming your OS is Windows based, and post the results here.

buddy, could other laptops or devices connect to the router just fine? using ur laptop is is that u can SEE the router but just unable to connect to it?? coz if so i had a similar stupid problem with mine as well
it has to do with the lease time specified at ur router, if it's 24 days say (maybe value in hours instead am not sure) then after 24 days that's it!! u cant connect no more, i dont know why the heck this is there, but i overcome it by specifying the lease time expiry after 87236809 days
that's it!!
